Picnic in the Bark

Picnic in the Bark

Friday and Saturday

Helping Charlie cover some medical bills

We decided to get in on a little of the action that will be taking place at the Picnic.

We heard there was gonig to be a sack race, so Amiee decided to find her sack to show she was ready for a little competetion.

Which way to the starting line

Do you really think I have this sack properly displayed

And then we heard that Mr. Pip was having a Beer and Brat contest so Winston definately thought he would qualify for that one.  See how tipsy he was already trying to handle that beer.

Whew Mom, I think that is enough of that whicked stuff

And here was our attempt at the tube steak contest.  We failed because we had no idea how to get them out of the bowl.

Cleo's Snake Hunt

I am not sure if we have mentioned before that for some reason our back yard has become a haven for garter snakes this year.  Well Cleo, has found this new creature to be very entertaining for her.  She will walk for hours on end the parimeter of the yard.  Back and Forth, Back and Forth over and over....We have had to actually shut the big door to not allow her out the doggie door during the day.  She doesn't seem to have a clue that she could get overheated while doing this.  The last few weeks in our area the temps have been in upper 90's (98) to be exact the other day.

All though she has come very close to capturing one of these sleathering creatures she had not accomplished it like Amiee has.  She was beyond excitement when she came out the backdoor last night and there on the sidewalk all coiled up was this critter.  I on the other hand am not beyond excitement with this new found toy.  See Cleo likes to bring things in the house and a "SNAKE" is not my type of house toy.  But with Cleo's previous aggression issues, you just don't take things away from her when she is fixated on them.

Here is Cleo with her big catch for the day.

Mine all mine

This is a huge garter snake in my book

Come here little critter, lets be friends

You absolutely, positively cannot have my snake

The "Guard" is on

Oh, lets move him over here

Let me check to see if he is still moving

I think he maybe sleeping

Oh, No you don't try to escape me

I think my mission was accomplished

Here is a short video I tried to capture of her.  She was drooling and so fixed on this poor critter.

Helping Joplin Humane Society

There were a couple of different things going on the last few weeks to help the homeless fur-kids in Joplin, MO after an E5 tornado destroyed their town.

1st Project -

Mr. Pip was having a Superhero Party for his blog anniversary.  Along with this he had a comment-a-thon for each party of the Superhero Party.  Since there are so many superheros out there, it had to be broken into several different posts.  So we volunteered to sponsor one of the postings.  Well that particular posting received 82 comments.  We got that little piece of plastic out of the Mom's purse (without any teeth marks) and proceeded to make our donation to Joplin Humane Society for $82.00 green bucks, and from reading Mr. Pip's blog we raised a whole lot of money for them. Awesome and we are glad to help celebrate with Mr. Pip and all the superhero's out there.  Mr. Pip's party could not have been better named with how it turned out.  EVERYONE IS A SUPERHERO for raising green bucks for the homeless fur-kids in Joplin.

2nd Project -

Tank organized an Operation Toto for the fur-friends that have been left homeless by the tornado's in Joplin, MO.  You can read all about it on his blog here.  We are sending our human out to retrieve these immediately and get them in the mail.

Here's the address:

Joplin Humane Society
Animal Adoption and Resource Center
140 E. Emperor Lane
Joplin, MO   64801

Well our human listens pretty good to three howling hounds on the importance of completing this in a timely fashion, unlike some of her postings that are so behind.  She jumped into action and went to the fabric store.  Did you know that fleece material is really cheap this time of the year.  She purchased some material that was enough to make two fleece blankets.  We also had a couple of new fleece blankets that were just stuck back in a corner for some reason, so we included those as well.  We also thought maybe we should send a few little toys with the blankets.  Heck you can't have a blankie without a toy to snuggle with.  So here are a couple of pictures that we got snapped before the package went to the post office.

Fleece Blanket #1

Fleece Blanket #2 (eagles)

Pictures of the store purchased ones

All the blankets in the box

We then added a few leashes, collars, and toys

We addressed it and added our Project Toto badge on the outside

Winston and Amiee sealing it with a kiss before we mail it off

Winston just thought he needed a few extra minutes to reflect on what we were doing

(Note from HDM - These were actually mailed earlier in the week and they should be arriving today at the Joplin Humane Society)
